Sousse - The ancient city of Justinianopolis. It lies a couple hundred kilometers south of Tunis on the Mediterranean coast. During the era of Arab rule in medieval times, Sousse was one of the main ports used by armies raiding and invading Sicily and Southern Europe. In more recent times, the city has inherited something of a French character to it. Today, the city is an interesting blend of a traditional Tunisian town and a modern touristic resort. Interesting sites in Sousse include a fine museum, several early Christian catacombs, and the fortified medieval Medina. |
